Task 12 - Thinking of a Concept/Song (Done)
The way we got to this song was because of the song type. We wanted to do an alternative, but at the same time, we didn't want anything too long or too short, as mentioned above. We wanted to do something like Arctic Monkeys "On For the Road". However, we wanted something more alternative, finally deciding on "This Too Shall Pass" by OK Go, because we felt it had a unique taste to it. The official music video for the song, the 'Rube Goldberg Machine', was also very creative and must have taken ages to set up and in the end, it turned out to be different from any other music video, hence why we chose it

Task 10 & 11 - Lip Syncing - Re-done (Done)
This is a redrafted video from Tasks 10 and 11 on lip syncing. I think that this video is much better than the last due to the fact that this time I was singing with the song playing on my phone, not just off the top of my head. This helped tremendously as I synced in with perfect timing. However, I still am not quite happy about the choice of backgrounds or the type of shots taken. Apart from the shot at the end, the camera at a different angle, the rest simply featured me standing and waving my arms about. The lighting could also have been improved by creating a creative lack or excess of it - such as showing me in an area which didn't have much light or standing against a well lit background, such as the sky. Also, some mid close ups could also have been useful in improving the audience interest in the video, as mid shots and long shots didn't have much of an effect.
This is Ed's draft of the Lip Syncing task. It features good syncing to the music, since he also sang to the words during filming and this then improved the overall accuracy of the syncing. However, as with mine, the shots could have been better. Similarly, the only notable one was the last one - the mid close up. The background was the same, as was the lighting. However, the sweep for the instrumental part of the song was smooth and offered some respite for the lighting.
Things to improve for next time:
- Mise-en-scene - More creative background/lighting
- Camera angle/movement
- Quantity of shots
- Detailed planning
- More confidence from actor/actress

Task 10 & 11 - Lip Syncing (Done)
I do not believe that this music video came out well in any way. Most, if not all, of it is out of sync with the music, which makes it rather confusing. The problem is that I did not sing in with the music, but out of my memory - this caused me to go out of pace with the song and I simply sang too fast.
The framing could have been better at one point - I have learnt from this that the amount of shots is paramount to establishing the tempo of the video, especially when the song itself is fast-paced. I don't want a song with fast speed while the shots are limited and there is little quality in terms of speed of the shots. I could have had a lot more confidence when singing - it would have improved the mood I was trying to set as well as link to the theme and the positive vibe of the song. Additionally, not having the script to read from would have improved how the video looked, as quite a lot of it includes me looking down at the lyrics.
However, I also learnt from the video that good lighting is essential to set the mood of the song, as this video had several cuts with with a quality amount of light.
This task was critical in helping me to understand my mistakes and allowing me to see what I needed to improve for the real music video. I identified the main mistake as not playing the song whilst lip syncing, as I could have sang to it, rather than singing the entire song off the top of my head. Overall, it gave me advice as to how to improve next time.

Task 9 - Music Video Directors (Done)
This task was rather helpful, since I had a look at the people behind the making of the actual video - the directors. My chosen directors are Joseph Kahn - who is possibly the most renown music video director - as well as Spike Jonze and Mark Romanek. I noticed that my chosen directors were more veered towards making performance music videos rather than narrative based. This has persuaded me to consider performance as a type for my music video.

Task 8 Part 4 - Music Consumption Change (Done)
This is my research into how music videos and music in general were accessed through different time periods and through different means. From this I understand that the most popular way to give my music video to the audience would undoubtedly be You Tube. Since its creation, the video sharing site has had far more views than any other site on the internet, which made access to music possible in the first place and also because its one of the first places where most artists prefer to give their songs to the audience, additionally for free.
