Task 5 - Branding (Done)

http://tommygunengineer.wix.com/artist-branding

Q: What is the importance of synergy when creating a brand for your artist?
A: Synergy will be important when creating a brand for my artist, because, above all, it lets the target audience know who the artist is and the artist's popularity will increase. Also, the audience, to whom  the company that I will choose appeals, will also become familiar with the artist, which will again boost their audience range.

Task 4 - Analysis of Digipak Adverts (Done)

From this task, I have gained more of an understanding of the importance of Digipak adverts, including the codes and conventions, how they link to their respective artists and their music and how to make people aware of them. This will most likely help me in the later stages of making the music video as I will have to create a Digipak cover and possibly also an advert. Additionally, I have understood that however I create my music video, I must also carefully choose the appropriate setting of the advert, not just something that 'might' appeal to my chosen audience.

Checklist of Codes and Conventions:

  • Name of artist
  • Title of album
  • List of several songs included in the album
  • Picture of artist
  • Artist's website address
  • Subtitle (perhaps lyrics of a song)
  • Date of release, or 'Out Now' if it has already been released.

Task 3 - Analysis of Digipaks (Done)

From this task, I have learned a great deal about what Digipaks are, their advantages and disadvantages and how they compare to the 'Jewel Cases'. I have also become much more aware of the cases that I buy - whether they are Digi's or Jewels - as I have not been aware at all before. From the interviews, I have gained some insight as to how other people with different tastes towards music react to it and to which case they would be most likely to buy.

Digipaks: The advantages of Digipaks over Jewel Cases is that they're much more resistant to damage - Jewel Cases have arms to hold both of the plastic trays which shatter very easily when stress or pressure is applied. This problem does not exists with Digipaks. Additionally, it has the advantage of a less of an impact on the environment and can hold more CD's than the Jewel Case, which helps artists promote and sell themselves to their audiences more. It is also much more eye-catching. However, the disadvantages include Digipaks being much more pricey than standard Jewel Cases, roughly £2 more.  They are also prone to wearing and will show tears and other damage e.g. spills from water easier than a Jewel Case. They are also much more expensive to produce.

Contents:
CD (able to hold multiple CD's)
Paperboard outer binding
Plastic tray
Teeth holding the CD

Task 2 - Analysis of music websites (Done)

d
This task helped me to understand how artists like Tom Jones and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis designed their websites and reasons for that design. I also know now that a website should be made to fit the artist's own personality and their style of music, as this will appeal to their audiences. The difference from Macklemore's blog-like website and Jones' classical, 'neat' style.

Checklist of websites includes the following:

  • Artist name
  • Page names
  • Picture of artist
  • Links to social sites, like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Posts from social websites (artist choice)
  • Additional page links, e.g. Cookie Info and Privacy Policy

Task 1 - History of Music Videos (Done)

This task has helped me to understand more of music videos, their history in particular. I found this task a tad challenging, as I couldn't really find many notable periods throughout its time. However, I now understand a lot more about what makes a music video and I know about its origins, short musicals to advertisements for musicals to product and entertainment usage.
